The Problem & Requirements

The client required a unified, high-reliability messaging client running synchronously across mobile (Android & iOS) and desktop (macOS) with instant message delivery, offline conversation browsing, and rock-solid state synchronization.

My Personal Contributions & Responsibilities

  • ✓Led and guided a team of 3 Flutter engineers, conducting code reviews and defining modular feature structure.
  • ✓Engineered real-time bidirectional communication using Socket.IO with automatic reconnection and heartbeat monitoring.
  • ✓Implemented local offline message persistence and querying using Drift (type-safe SQLite abstraction).
  • ✓Architected reactive state management with Riverpod stream providers to sync active socket events with local database rows.
  • ✓Integrated Firebase Authentication, FCM background notifications, and Crashlytics crash reporting.
  • ✓Prepared and managed production deployment pipelines for Google Play Store, Apple App Store, and macOS.

Technical Challenges & Problem Solving

Challenge #1•

Maintaining synchronized message ordering and read states across mobile and desktop when users switch between online and offline modes.

Architectural Solution:Decoupled UI rendering from socket events by funneling all incoming socket payloads through Drift SQLite tables first. Riverpod stream providers watch Drift queries, guaranteeing that the UI is always a direct reactive projection of persistent local storage.
Challenge #2•

Cross-platform desktop adaptations for macOS alongside mobile touch interactions.

Architectural Solution:Implemented responsive dual-pane layout logic using go_router and adaptive input listeners for desktop keyboard shortcuts (Enter to send, Shift+Enter for newline) while retaining standard mobile touch gestures.

Architecture & System Design

Architecture BlueprintFeature-First Clean Architecture with Drift Persistence

Separated into Presentation (Widgets & Riverpod Notifiers), Domain (Message Entities & UseCases), and Data (Drift DAO & Socket.IO Client Repository).

Data & Control Flow:

UI (Widgets) <-> Riverpod State Notifiers <-> Domain UseCases <-> [Data Repositories] <-> Drift SQLite / Socket.IO

Features Implemented

•Low-latency real-time 1-on-1 and group chat via Socket.IO
•Offline-first message history caching with full-text search support via Drift
•Media attachments, image previews, and delivery state indicators (Sent, Delivered, Read)
•Background and killed-state push notifications via Firebase Cloud Messaging (FCM)
•Crashlytics error tracking and telemetry for proactive stability fixes
•Multi-platform builds targeting Android APK/AAB, iOS IPA, and macOS universal binaries

[1] Input & Event Stream

User gestures & socket events handled with debounced controllers.

[2] State Transformation

Computed by Riverpod without touching database models directly.

[3] Reactive Projection

Widgets rebuild conditionally via target selectors for optimal frame rates.

Deployment & Release Pipeline

  • Configured app signing, entitlements, and sandbox profiles for macOS Apple Developer distribution.
  • Managed Google Play Console track releases and Apple TestFlight internal testing rings.
  • Maintained zero-crash stability benchmark above 99.4% on Crashlytics.
